About

Dylan Tomiharu is a Japanese Canadian composer and recording artist whose work spans concert music, video games, and digital media. A Grammy-nominated contributor to the Star Wars Outlaws soundtrack, he blends traditional Japanese music with contemporary forms. His practice, shaped by the legacy of Japanese Canadian internment, emerged from a desire to reconnect with a disrupted heritage. Through collaboration, he uses sound to recover silenced narratives and foster dialogue across communities and creative disciplines.

“My journey into traditional Japanese music began as a way to reconnect with my lost heritage.

Today, my mission is to collaborate with creative teams to bring worlds to life through music that resonates across cultures and borders.”

Music composed by Kazuma Jinnouchi, Dylan recorded alongside the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and The Nashville Scoring Orchestra on the pieces “Kijimi, The Frozen Refuge”, “The Ashiga Clan”, and “Kijimi City”

Dylan composed additional lines for the shakuhachi to highlight its rich distinctive sound.

Collaborating with Wilbert Roget, II, and Kazuma Jinnouchi offered invaluable insights into large-scale music composition for major media projects. This experience has significantly enhanced my skill set, enabling me to contribute to projects with a higher level of artistry and professionalism.
